The still active Misti Volcano is a perfect cone. It sits right above Arequipa, and is climbed very often. There is no water on the mountain (except at the Aguada Blanca reservoir), but from Janaury until April you can find snow on the upper part. The mountain was frequently climbed by the Incas.
Several routes to reach the summit can be used. The average time for the ascent per day is 6 to 7 hours from base camp to the summit and for the descent 3 hours should be calculated.
Classification: easy
Altitude: 5.822 m
The best time to climb in the Arequipa region is between April and September, during the Andean summer.
During the rest of the year, it is also possible to climb, but it is more likely to have some bad weather.
